There are a dozen Search and Rescue (SAR) volunteer teams that assist the Spokane Sheriff's Office and the Dept. of Emergency Management (DEM) in locating lost persons. Without these dedicated volunteers, there would certainly be a greater suffering and loss of life. Please see the list of teams below for more information on each of the teams.

Spokane DEM has several forms that need to be read and filled out to register you as a volunteer:
1) Application Form
2) DEM Volunteer Policies
3) Private Owned Vehicle Usage Guidelines
      Vehicle Use Policy
      Vehicle Accident Reporting Policy
      Vehicle Use Policy Acknowledgement

Please fill out and and sign both pages of the Application and Vehicle Use Policy Acknowledgement forms and give to your group leader with a copy of your identification for submittal to DEM.

Inland Northwest Search & Rescue: An adult search and rescue team which provides trained personnel for both urban and wilderness searches.

Spokane Winter Knights: An adult group of snowmobile riders who volunteer their equipment and time to rescue individuals in the mountain & snow environment.

Inland Empire ATV Search and Rescue provides rapid search resources over uneven terrain using All Terrain Vehicles

 

 

Spokane County Mounted Search and Rescue logo Mounted Search & Rescue: Provides horse and mule resources for searching, packing equipment in to remote locations, and evacuating subjects with minor injuries.

Intermountain Search Dogs logo Intermountain Search Dogs: Provides professionally trained dogs and handlers to assist with air scent, trailing, and human remains detection.

Inland Empire Bloodhounds: Provides professionally trained bloodhounds and certified handlers for assistance in search and rescue operations.

Mountain West Rescue Dogs: Providing search dog teams to Inland Empire since 1982 - teams trained in air scent, trailing, water and scent discrimination.

Explorer Search and Rescue: youth and young adults trained in search and rescue techniques, survival, communications and first-aid. They are used in missing and lost person searches along with evidence recovery in many major crimes.

Spokane Civil Air Patrol : An auxiliary of the US Air Force, Civil Air Patrol (CAP) is comprised of young cadets who assist with search and rescue operations.

Mobile Emergency Operations Center: Provides mobile command and control facilities for fire, law enforcement and search and rescue needs.
